Everything you need to know about printing your logo on reusable bags

Custom Printing Overview

A branded reusable bag is a walking advertisement โ€” research shows a single custom tote bag generates 3,300+ impressions over its lifetime. Whether you're a retailer, event organizer, or corporate brand, putting your logo on a quality reusable bag is one of the highest-ROI marketing investments you can make.

1. Screen Printing

The most common and cost-effective method for bulk orders. Ink is pressed through a mesh screen onto the bag โ€” one screen per color.

ProsCons
โœ… Most affordable per unit at scale
โœ… Vibrant, long-lasting colors
โœ… Works on cotton, canvas, non-woven PP
โœ… Best for simple logos and text
โŒ Setup fee per color
โŒ Not ideal for photorealistic images
โŒ Minimum 500 units to be cost-effective
โŒ Thick ink can feel raised

Best for: Non-woven PP, cotton canvas, flat surfaces. Logos with 1โ€“4 solid colors. Orders of 500+.

2. Heat Transfer / DTG

Design is printed onto transfer paper and heat-pressed onto the bag. Digital heat transfer (DTG) prints directly onto the fabric.

ProsCons
โœ… Full-color, photorealistic prints
โœ… No per-color setup fees
โœ… Better for complex designs & gradients
โœ… Lower MOQ (from 500 units)
โŒ Less durable โ€” may crack over time
โŒ Can feel plasticky on fabric
โŒ More expensive per unit at scale
โŒ Not ideal for dark fabrics (heat transfer)

Best for: Full-color logos, event-specific designs, smaller batches. Light-colored cotton or canvas.

3. Embroidery

Your logo is stitched directly into the bag fabric with embroidery thread.

ProsCons
โœ… Premium, luxurious look and feel
โœ… Extremely durable โ€” never fades
โœ… Works on thick canvas
โœ… Perceived as higher value
โŒ Most expensive option
โŒ Limited to simpler designs
โŒ Minimum 500 units
โŒ Not suitable for thin/non-woven materials

Best for: Premium corporate gifts, vineyard wine bags, boutique retail canvas totes. Thick canvas or heavy cotton only.

Design Tips for Bag Printing

  1. Keep it simple. Bags have texture โ€” fine details can get lost. Bold, clean logos print best.
  2. Size your artwork appropriately. Typical print area: 8"ร—10" on totes, 6"ร—8" on smaller bags. Don't go edge-to-edge.
  3. Vector files preferred. Provide .AI, .EPS, or .SVG files for screen printing. High-res .PNG (300 DPI+) for heat transfer.
  4. Consider the bag color. Light ink on dark bags requires an underbase layer (adds cost). Dark ink on light bags is simplest.
  5. Test a sample. Always request a pre-production sample before committing to a full run.
